Daft Punk – Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger (Dillon Francis Remix) [Los Angeles, US]

Electronic / Dance / Funk

Happy Easter all! Hope everyone’s enjoying the festive season and eating your own weights in chocolate, but lets not forget that diabetes is simply not in trend. Maybe next year. And yes, to help you haul that easter egg filled ass onto the treadmill, it’s that track again. As if you don’t own enough edits/samples of this oldie (but a goldie) already. However when Dillon Francis brought this back during Coachella, and by no means was it outdated. Let’s not lie to ourselves, it’s always gonna work. If you’ve got a million versions, this is the one to keep. Yea, Kanye, I said it.

Making it in music editing and photo editing. Some people just have everything.
Being booked two years in a row for Coachella, he’s a rare one.

Chromeo – Come Alive ft. Toro Y Moi [Montreal, CA / Columbia, US]

Electro Pop / Funk

With the week long 40 degree heatwave here in Melbourne, tracks like this make the sweating worth it. A little under four minutes, but just so, so much funk. When it’s said that good things come in small packages they weren’t kidding. Following the raging success of the previous two tracks from their forthcoming LP White Women (namely Over Your Shoulder and Sexy Socialite), the electro funk duo does not lose any momentum. I mean, this pretty much topped their track Night by Night in 2009 which an almost Daft Punk-esque robotic sound. This here ended 2013 right and will be most definitely kept on rotation throughout 2014!

Daughter – Get Lucky (Daft Punk Cover) [London, UK]

Downtempo / Acoustic / Folktronica

Anybody else sick of all that hoo-ha over Daft Punk and RAM and specifically Get Lucky yet? Well it’s hard not to be, with rumours, leaks, and edits of their tunes gushing all over the place. I’d hardly be exaggerating to say that the search for music has been pretty much plastered with the helmet-clad duo’s footsteps lingering at every corner. But nevertheless, their talent and their music is undeniable, and the hype; unavoidable. So keeping that in mind, my favorite London based indie folk trio Daughter has taken it in their stride to give us a palette cleanser. Performed on BBC Radio’s live lounge, the trio has taken the funky and uplifting track and smothered it with a forbidding shade of downtempo minimalistic folktronica. I wouldn’t say this is one of their best tracks or covers by a long shot, but it’s definitely a refreshing break from all the pent-up hype. Haven’t heard anything much like this since Chet Faker’s chilled-out take on Black Street’s No Diggity.

You’ll definitely find more Daughter on this blog soon enough but if you’re adventurous enough, check them out at their soundcloud here.

Daft Punk – Get Lucky ft. Nile Rodgers & Pharrell Williams [Paris, FR]

Funk / French House / Electronic

I don’t even know if this is real anymore, but they’re selling it on Amazon so I’m just gonna take a leap of faith here. I mean these French dudes have been way too elusive about their music. But as exasperated as we are that we can’t soak in the funky bliss, whatever they’re doing is definitely working. The hype over their new album Random Access Memories has been purely insane. I mean, never have I seen so many bootlegs, edits and full length reproductions in an attempt to create the illusion of an early release. And more importantly, never have I seen listeners so willing to believe. And well, I’ve been holding off for pretty long myself; but this sounds pretty legit to me. So let’s just hope we got lucky 😉

Sit back and bask in some of that casual and traditional funk that we’ve all come to adore.
*update* The soundcloud link has suddenly been removed (seems like it was the real one?) so here’s the Coachella version

P.S. Now that it’s out, I’ve gotta confess that the teasers got me so much more psyched than the track itself… Crossing my fingers to this being a fake. Still pure magic though, can’t wait for the rest of the album.

B-Roc (The Knocks) – There’s Something About Us Under The Sheets (Ellie Goulding x Daft Punk) [New York, US]

Electronic / Chill / Mash-up

I’m sure you’re familiar with electronic duo The Knocks (Dancing With The DJ, ring a bell?). In fact you might even be familiar with this track as well since it’s been about 3 years from it’s release and it’s had mad attention. In that case let’s relive good times before Daft Punk blows us away with their new album in April and we forget all about their old stuff.
This track may be an oldie but it’s definitely a goldie (:  And if you haven’t heard it, good for you; you’re in for a treat!

In any case check out The Knocks at their soundcloud here.
They’re pretty prolific and have seriously got tons of mind-blowing stuff.
