So I’m currently in Shanghai and this weekend happens to be the Fête de la Musique. For those that aren’t in the loop, it’s an amazing day and concept of “music everywhere and concerts nowhere”, for the first day of summer: June 21st. Honestly, who says no to free concerts? Even more so when the guest performers are the kind that automatically get your dancing pants on. Or skirts. You know what I mean.
Now imagine this song “Pony” playing live in front of you, jazzy saxophone and all. And if you want some serious funks and grooves check out “My Game” ;).
Boolap, Balap, Balalalap
Someone said this before me already, but ’tis true, how can you not love a band that has a rainbow moustache as their logo? Check out their soundcloud here and show them some more love on facebook and youtube.
Also if you’re cool like me and in Shanghai, here’s the Fete de la Musique homepage, still a few shows you can catch!
Yup just hoping I can make you feel how out of this world it was with all my extra photos.

Modern Vampires of the City hands down my favourite album last year, winning a well-deserved Grammy. Step my favourite track off the album. Vampire Weekend definitely on top of all the indie rockers. Ezra Koenig possibly my biggest music man crush. (hush Xavier you’re safe.) SO yes, you can imagine the mentality I had diving into this remix. Scorn, that’s what. Snarling at the arrogance of even daring to alter such an incredible track. But that mentality sure faded away fast. Because, WOW. I would never dare say it lived to the original, but I’d say it’s paying decent homage. The Parisian electronic duo sure have drizzled some sweet piano sequences over the sugar coating that is Vampire Weekend.
For all the fans out there, trust me this one’s a goodie!
Get more mixes at their soundcloud here, it’s quite the treasure trove.
22 year old London based songwriter, producer Secaina Hudson is definitely not new to the scene. She’s done a fair bit of producing and writing, with the likes of MNEK and Jacob Banks (Atlantic Records). But that does not justify how impressive this track is. Working with FRANKMUSIK she’s created a comfortable lounge-worthy sound that I find no difficulty playing as a new summer hit. Fans of Disclosure, Bondax or Duke Dumont should dive in with glee!
Don’t know about you but I’m just about ready to flip my hair and proclaim independence.
Check out her other refixes, remixes, and covers at her soundcloud, it’s pretty great.
Also spread some love at her fresh new facebook page and tell your friends about her, this is the sorta music to share.
The third track off Ryan Hemsworth’sSECRET SONGS soundcloud page, this one’s a banger. Imagine traveling through space while skilfully dodging neon lasers as they take out all the assholes around you. Yep, a nice feeling’s what it is. It seems somewhat in trend to have artist recommended pages this days, with Diplo Approved currently at over 24,000 followers. But again, the logic’s sound. If the artist makes good music, probably listens to good music too.
Ryan Hemsworth’s page however goes beyond that. It’s fully run by him, no publicists, no press, no lables, no blogs and no premieres. Just free bi-weekly downloads for his friends. That’s the kinda friendship we can work with (:
And up till now, the tunes have been phenomenal. Full-on whack.
If you’ve not been following (been outta the friendship circle) the first track by 17 year old Tennyson was quite a pleasure as well, just gonna pop it down here. Hold on for 1.53 onwards.
“hi hi hi! this a song about missing her, cold beaches, kittens, running hugs, calculus and fruit salad”
Please teach me how not to love this kid.
P.S. what were you doing at that age? Yea. I know, samesies ):
We don’t have much to go on when it comes to London based act Johnny Lloyd. We’ve got his facebook and twitter page but that’s about as far as it goes. What we do know, is that he’s currently on tour playing through UK, Germany, and France. With only two tracks on his soundcloud to go on, it’s remarkable how well he’s demonstrated his ability to go far. It’s gonna be a lot easier letting the music speak for itself. Nostalgia is impeccably cued at the 2.33 mark, just wait for it.
*edit* Johnny’s just coming off the success as previous lead guitar/vocalist of Camden based four piece alternative rock band Tribes that split in 2013. Given it’s quite a different sound but HOW DID WE NOT SEE THIS.
Almost can’t help but say “Remember when music used to be good?”
If you’re hooked and in Europe currently, get tickets to catch him here.
