Major Lazer x Spazzkid – Getting To Know De Floor [Los Angeles, US]

Electronic / Dancehall / Experimental

He mixes so hard, them birds migrate.

If y’all aren’t familiar with Spazzkid, it is the creative outlet of Los Angeles based Mark Redito and his friends. I think he’s originally from the Phillipines but who knows!

His music blends video game sounds, Skype sounds! (as you heard) as well as percussive synth pop and even
j-pop influences to create his own unique vision of candy electro. (Sure seems pretty in nowadays huh? with the rise of Chvrches and HAERTS)

Just released less than a week ago, this track has quickly become a guilty pleasure of mine. Getting To Know De Floor was actually some sort of joke spinoff from infamous (hope there’s no disagreement here!) Pon De Floor and Getting To Know You from Spazzkid’s recent album Desire released in the April of 2013 which only took him about a year to make but is simply stunning. From production, to artwork, and multi-cultural influences, it’s simply intriguing.
If you’ve not heard his album and you like his sound,  name your price and get it off his band camp here.
Yes i’m talking to y’all fans of Cashmere Cat, Biblo or even Four Tet.

Chromeo – Come Alive ft. Toro Y Moi [Montreal, CA / Columbia, US]

Electro Pop / Funk

With the week long 40 degree heatwave here in Melbourne, tracks like this make the sweating worth it. A little under four minutes, but just so, so much funk. When it’s said that good things come in small packages they weren’t kidding. Following the raging success of the previous two tracks from their forthcoming LP White Women (namely Over Your Shoulder and Sexy Socialite), the electro funk duo does not lose any momentum. I mean, this pretty much topped their track Night by Night in 2009 which an almost Daft Punk-esque robotic sound. This here ended 2013 right and will be most definitely kept on rotation throughout 2014!

Salt Ashes – Somebody [Brighton, UK]

Synth Pop / Nu-Disco / Funk

Still residing in the land of scare internet, this was shared with me by a dear friend of mine, I did not expect to love this as much as I did. Emerging UK artist Salt Ashes will most definitely be a strong addition to the revival of the Nu-Disco genre. Not much to her name but a lot of promise and expectations will definitely follow such a strong debut.
2014 you’re looking good so far!

There’s not much on her soundcloud as of now but follow her for updates here!
